Taper madness

9 Jan

I’m a mess.
I’m tired and crabby. My ipod broke this morning and I can’t find my garmin. The key to the garage is missing (and so is my mind apparently. I don’t know what it is with me and keys lately).
I can barely run a mile without getting tired and I’m supposed to do a MARATHON this weekend?
Every injury I have ever suffered is back along with a few extra aches and pains.
BUT….I knew this was coming. It happens EVERY SINGLE TIME.
Before the trials in 2008 I couldn’t complete a 4 mile “tempo” at marathon pace the week of the race. I got pretty worried but ended up feeling amazing a few days later. Thats been the case for basically every marathon I’ve run. We even changed the workout to 4 by a mile with a minute rest so I can hit the pace. Even so it’s still a struggle and this morning proved no different. In fact it felt a little extra uphill into the wind through sand ish.
It’s NOT the reduced volume that bothers me. I like having extra time and I actually really look forward to my complete break from exercise after a big event. It’s the inbetween week or two of half-training/half-resting that makes my body feel awful.
Is it Sunday yet? I can’t wait to get this party started! Good luck to everyone racing and I hope you feel better this week than I do!

I know, what’s up with stuff!!! The wristband of my Garmin just broke and it’s gonna cost almost half, to get it repaired, of what I paid for the watch. Two years ago I messed up my r-hamstring, it’s about 98% recovered, and this past fall I injured my l-hamstring. Well, in order to take some of the pressure off my l-hamstring I’ve been favoring it and guess what…my right calf now is beginning to sting. WHAT DA HECK!!! Luckily it’s early January (I keep telling myself) and I can, (GULP!) take some time off, but I’ve been carefully building my miles and now to take a step back, rather a short break is annoying. Good luck Tera and keep the faith!
